Butte College opened its doors on September 23, 1968, to 1,194 students.  Located on a 928-acre Wildlife Refuge in the center of Northern California’s Butte County, Butte College has emerged as a national leader in sustainability. Butte College serves a diverse student population and, since 2018, has been designated as an Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) with 31% of our students identifying as Hispanic/Latinx. Additionally, Butte College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC).
